Love Songs Back Then

I am such a sucker when it comes to nostalgia. Which is why now I dedicated this Monday series for anything I missed from my childhood or teenage era. Perhaps this is not going to a regular series cause let’s face it, I am no longer one to keep up with schedules. But hey, for the sake of nostalgia, let’s pretend that this is going to be a weekly thing, yea? :p

Ok, so to kick off the series, what’s more appropriate than throwing some love songs around?

These are not exactly my favorite love songs (I have my own list, and it’s a long one haha); I just randomly browsed some songs here and there on Youtube, and I like them enough to put them here.

“Shakespeare In Love” – Layla Kaylif (1999)

So he falls in love to feel that he’s falling
She’ll let him know his heart
Oh, don’t you know it
Oh, don’t you know it
That’s Shakespeare in love

To be honest, I don’t really understand the meaning of this song. But I remember I used to hear this being played at my local radio station. Such a soothing song to listen while you’re doing your homework, me thinks 🙂

“I Don’t Want To Wait” – Paula Cole (1997)

don’t want to wait for our lives to be over,
I want to know right now, what will it be?
I don’t want to wait for our lives to be over,
Will it be yes or will it be…sorry?

Ah, the classic from Dawson’s Creeks. Okay, I don’t know much about Dawson’s Creek either cause I wasn’t allowed to watch it back then. I can’t remember why for the life of me; but the soundtrack was being played really often that it’s almost impossible not to remember Dawson’s Creek whenever this song is on.

“More Than Words” – Extreme (1990)

More than words is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn’t have to say that you love me
Cause I’d already know

I think this one deserves to be the one called THE song when it comes to love song on guitar, lol. Seriously, I couldn’t remember how many times I’ve heard my friends who just start learning guitar playing this song as their first song. Maybe it’s the melody or the chords?

“Torn” – Natalie Imbruglia (1997)

There’s nothin’ where we used to lie
Conversation has run dry
That’s what’s going on
Nothing’s fine
I’m torn

Ohh yeah, girl power. I remember late 90s was definitely the year of soloists. Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, and Mandy Moore (or what I usually call them, “The Power Blondes”) were all rising stars. Not many people remember how Natalie Imbruglia fared during those times, but “Torn” is quite a song back then. It’s popular, and so easy listening you just couldn’t help to sing along.

“A Thousand Miles” – Vanessa Carlton (2000)

And I need you
And I miss you
And now I wonder
If I could fall
Into the sky
Do you think time
Would pass me by
‘Cause you know I’d walk a thousand miles
If I could just see you, tonight

And to close off the list (lol, why do I call this a list when I only have 5 songs in it, haih), this is the song that my Husband loves a lot. Like, this is the only song he still sings quite often these day from back then, hahahaha.

I kinda understand why he likes this kind of song. The video is so simple and the song -again- easy to sing along with. Besides, Vanessa Carlton is so pretty, no?
